Speech Therapy Sharjah

Assisting children by providing personalized support in areas of communication, speech clarity, language development, and feeding skills in various areas in and around Al Nahda Sharjah and areas nearby.

Many parents tell us they first noticed something was “different” when a child was using only a few words and they were finding it difficult to communicate or teachers mentioning communication difficulties. At times, we get families waiting and hoping their kids will grow out of it. Some parents feel they may be missing something but uncertain if it is a serious concern.

At Austin Center, we understand that concerns regarding children’s development often arise much earlier than a parent seeking help.

You're not alone in this

Many Dubai parents come to us after months of quiet worry. A working mother notices her toddler still isn't putting two words together. A father hears the same feedback at every PTM: "He's bright, but he doesn't speak up in class."

Nursery teachers gently mention that your child gets frustrated, points instead of asking, or struggles to follow simple instructions. At home, mealtimes and bedtime turn into guessing games-and tantrums.

None of this means anything is "wrong" with your child. It just means they need the right support, early.

Quick Answer

Speech therapy helps children build clear speech, language, and social communication. It supports kids with delayed speech, unclear words, or trouble interacting. Austin Center, located in the Ansar Gallery Building, Karama, Dubai, provides pediatric speech therapy for families across Dubai and nearby Sharjah.

Signs your child may benefit from speech therapy

If you recognise even one or two of these, an assessment is worth it.

No gestures like pointing, waving and showing items
Not babbling, playing with sounds and sound imitation
Difficulty of copying words, sounds and simple phrases
Prefers to point to an object rather than asking people
Has fewer words than other children of the same age
Frustrated when trying to communicate their needs or wants
Often has to point or use gestures to communicate rather than using words
Family members can understand the child, but most others can't understand his/her speech
Cannot narrate simple stories or talk about their day
Often gives one-word responses to questions
Cannot follow group directions and may have to repeat instructions several times to understand
does not make much conversation in class and has difficulty making friends due to limited communication

A Real Parent Story

“He went from 5 words to full sentences in 6 months.”

1. A mother from Al Nahda, Sharjah noticed that her 4-year-old son was not speaking clearly and frequently relied on pointing to communicate his needs. She was concerned about his communication and class participation skills after receiving feedback from his nursery and after an observation at a CBSE school in Al Nahda.

Concerns related to his speech and language development begins to rise. Frequently the mother would ask, “Will he grow out of this?”.

At the first consultation at Austin Center, Mrs. Tinu (Speech Therapist) observed the child through play-based interaction, and took the time to listen carefully to the parents' concerns in a comfortable and supportive environment.

The assessment reflected that the child has a speech and language delay and early communication difficulties, and required to start with the intervention programs. These concerns were communicated clearly in simple terms to the parents.

A structured intervention plan comprising speech therapy sessions, parent guidance and home strategies, and collaboration with the school when required was implemented. There was a steady progress observed with the intervention program – he started to use more words for communication, began responding with confidence to simple questions and was more actively participating in activities of his daily life.

The mother shared, “Now we know how to help him rather than telling him all the time.”

The same worries exist within many families in Karama, Bur Dubai, Deira, Al Qusais and Sharjah. Children begin to develop improved communication skills, confidence and learning readiness skills when they receive early support.

2. I have been referred for speech therapy due to concerns that my child does not express her basic needs clearly and she have difficulty with speech. Communication was not very easy or very effective her at this time, nor was it with our family. We have been working with Ms. Kusuma, Speech Therapist at Austin Center, Karama Dubai, since my child started speech therapy.

In a patient way, Ms. Kusuma worked with her to make her effectively communicate her needs and build across her vocabulary. She was very consistent and calm and supportive all the way.

We, the parents were also trained to facilitate communication at home and adapt daily activities to promote the development of skills.

We saw gradual improvement in her vocabulary, communication skills, confidence, and willingness to communicate in everyday situations, over time.

I am thankful for the advice and encouragement that we received. It has helped us to understand and help our child in a different and effective way.
